Description
A strong root whose intertwined forms are partly above ground. This photograph is dedicated to an old tree growing in a picturesque gorge in Saxon Switzerland. It is located in the Teufelsgrund, right next to the Heringshöhle.
The Teufelsgrund is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. The short circular path that leads between the steep sandstone walls through the cool and damp gorge offers wonderful motifs. In my opinion, they are reminiscent of the dreamlike and romantic imagery of fairy tales and stories from times long past.
Powerful roots, which stand above the sandstone and seek their way into the soil. Rock faces covered with moss and ferns, glowing in mysterious shades of green. Boulders that seem to block the way and form cave-like passages. A rock cave, rugged rock formations and crevices. The relaxing and peaceful ambience in the partial shade of the tall trees. With these words I would like to briefly describe the fairytale landscape in Teufelsgrund.
In my eyes, the tree root stands for the timeless beauty in nature, as well as for strength and constancy. I associate this enchanting place with beautiful memories of long hikes through the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxony.
