Description
The popular hiking destination called Sierra Helada is a landmark of the Costa Blanca in Spain. There are beautiful views of the cliffs at Morro Sant Jordà and the blue Mediterranean Sea.
The Sierra Helada Natural Park is located between the coastal towns of Altea and Benidorm. The elongated mountain range rises majestically from the sea and is clearly visible from afar. Hiking in the Sierra Helada mountain presents wonderful views of the blue Mediterranean Sea, the vertical cliffs and towards the other mountains near the coast. This photograph is dedicated to the impressive rock formations at Morro Sant Jordà which are located in the northern area of the mountain.
The side of the Sierra Helada facing the sea impresses with its rugged cliffs, while the slopes facing away from the sea appear rather gentle. A particularly charming place is the white lighthouse called Faro de l'Albir, which looks very picturesque in the mountainous landscape.
By the way, the name Sierra Helada means icy or frosty mountain. This probably refers less to the Mediterranean temperatures, but rather to misty light moods on the coast and the bright colors of the cliffs, which give the Sierra Helada mountain (seen from a distance) a frosty appearance on some days.
