Description
View from the top of the Peñón de Ifach towards the blue Mediterranean Sea and the coast of Calpe. The south side of the mountain is characterized by steep cliffs. Eroded rock formations frame the coastal scene. Mediterranean blue meets white limestone cliffs.
The Peñón de Ifach Natural Park is an excellent vantage point. It has fascinated people for a very long time. Archaeological finds at the foot of the mountain prove this fact. Due to its exposed location, locals used the mountain as an observation post in the past. Thus, the Peñón de Ifach was an important part of a defense system to protect the Valencian coast from pirates. Today it is a popular destination for hikers and climbers. The elevated vantage points allow a bird's eye view of the Costa Blanca and the sea. For this reason, the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park is one of my favorite destinations on the Mediterranean coast.
My photographic work is inspired by long hikes in the southeast of Spain, where I let myself be enchanted by Mediterranean mountain landscapes. Every time I take a break in the Peñón de Ifach (Penyal d'Ifac) Natural Park and let my gaze wander into the distance, the clocks seem to tick more slowly. In the distance rise the mountains near the coast, including the Sierra de Bernia with its foothill called Morro de Toix, as well as the Puig Campana and the Sierra de Aitana.
This landscape photograph is destined to bring some of the charm of the seaside town of Calpe and its landmark, the Peñón de Ifach (Penyal d'Ifac), into your home.
